Hello, yeah, it’s been a while.
Not much, how ’bout you?
Not much changes in the world of co-housing/coliving, as this column by Charles Montgomery shows.
“We built a home to solve some of the greatest challenges of our times. But almost nobody is following in our path. Why? Our home is illegal almost everywhere…”
That’s it. As you were.
Yes, municipal government bylaws are a real barrier to affordable living. Also it seems that city planners are only in the box thinkers. Ottawa has the added challenge of a huge rural area compared to the urban/suburban area, where population density rules outcomes. A very frustrating system. There does not seem to be any acknowledgement that 50%of the population lives alone and does not need a three bedroom unit.
Thanks for your update.
I’m hearing encouraging news that city planners are now in support of “the missing middle.” Also heard at a presentation recently that laneway houses are no longer an “if” but a “when” in Etobicoke which is also encouraging. The fellow who spoke said rules and regs should be in place by the end of 2023.
Cautiously optimistic that this will help with our housing mess. 🙂 Have a happy holiday! nm
