The future home of Wine on the Porch, Inc ticks all the boxes.
- a highly walkable neighbourhood, steps from Bloor West Village and the subway
- a substantial, charming house where we can live in comfort while planning our future expansion
- a clear path to renovation that will create six private spaces sharing large and comfortable common spaces.
The private spaces will range from 400 to 600 square feet and incorporate bedsitting rooms with private bath. The common spaces, another 2500 to 3000 feet, include stately dining and living areas, currently gleaming with blonde hardwood floors and darker, never-painted wainscotting. Preserving as much as possible of these heritage features will be a significant focus of our renovation, along with updating the electrical and plumbing systems and improving the energy efficiency of the structure.
The purchase was not without controversy. The real estate listing describes the property as a ravine lot. Mardi and Doug, perhaps naiively, accept this description; Hillary and Ted do not. “A ravine has to have water at the bottom,” says Hillary.
“It’s not a ravine, it’s just a hill.”
Whatever we end up calling it, the terrace provides a lovely spot on which to enjoy a glass of wine.
But before we get to that idyllic stage, there’s a lot of work to be done.
We will take possession mid-February and settle in for a bit. In the Spring we will open up our process to people who are interested in exploring the journey with us and helping to shape the renovation.
Watch this space.
